DIPLOMATIC COMMUNITY WORLD SCIENCE FORUM BRIEFING
Hosted and facilitated by the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa (SDCfA), this virtual event was presented by Daan du Toit, Deputy Director-General of International Cooperation and Resources in the Department of Science and Innovation.
On the cusp of South Africa’s hosting of the World Science Forum 2022 during December in Cape Town, the context of the briefing which included the opportunity for discussion, focussed on:
- What is the World Science Forum?
- What will the World Science Forum in South Africa be?
- How can South Africa’s international partners participate?
- Science knows no borders
An equal mix of representatives from the diplomatic and the science community – on the continent and beyond, attended the virtual event. Other representatives included the EU Delegation to South Africa and the Barcelona Science and Technology Diplomacy Hub!
The excellent level of attendance reinforced Daan’s opening remark “this event is exactly the type of engagement intended by the SDCfA – connecting the diplomatic and science community to respond to shared societal challenges”.
